In 2016, SARS introduced the Tax Clearance PIN as part of the new Tax Compliance Status (TCS) system. This update replaced the old paper-based process and allows taxpayers to obtain a Tax Clearance Certificate in real time through SARS eFiling.

Once your application is successful, the system generates your Tax Clearance Certificate online and issues a secure PIN. This PIN can be provided to any third party that requires proof of your tax compliance.

How the SARS Tax Clearance PIN Works

The Tax Clearance PIN allows a third party to verify your Tax Clearance Certificate status directly with SARS. By using the PIN, they receive authorised access to confirm whether your tax affairs are compliant at that specific time.

As your tax compliance status changes, the information available through online verification will automatically update. It is therefore essential to keep your tax affairs accurate and up to date at all times.

Third parties will not have access to confidential financial information.

They will only be able to view:

The relevant tax reference numbers
Your overall tax compliance status
